Want to talk about something.

Something some of us do pretty well.

Something some of us do occasionally.

Something some of us don’t do.

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

So this is Jesus talking to the disciples.

He tells them to go and make disciples of all nations.

The scripture will say it was the 11 followers that went.

Matthew 28:16-17

16 The eleven followers went to Galilee to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 On the mountain they saw Jesus and worshiped him, but some of them did not believe it was really Jesus.

Reading this, it’s easy to interpret that it was only 11 people there.

That this message was for the disciples only.

But it was not.

There were more than 11 people there.

There were over 500 people there.

This was written about Christ and the 12 disciples.

Scripture says some worshipped him…

…some doubted.

But the original 11 had now all seen Jesus by this point.

What was there to doubt?

1 Corinthians 15:6 mentions the number of people there.

There were a lot.

So he told ALL of them these things.

Let’s read it in the (NCV).

Matthew 28:19

19 So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is talking to more than 11 people.

He’s talking to everyone who is following him at this point.

Jesus is not just talking to the most dedicated of disciples.

He’s talking to anyone who’s willing to follow him at this point.

That’s us.

If we were alive in that region at that time…

WE more than likely would have been there.

Why?

Because we say we’re followers of Christ!

So he’s talking to us!

What does he say?

He tells them to go, make followers, baptize them.

Let’s look at the first 2 today.

  1. Go
  2. Make Followers

We’ll save the 3rd, (baptize…putting God’s name on them) for another time.

He tells us to go.

He tells us to make followers.

This is what I was talking about.

This is what some of us do well.

This is what some of do occasionally.

This is what some of us don’t do at all.

This is what we’re talking about today.

But I will word it in another way.

  1. Make An Effort
  2. Tell Someone

Put simply:

Make An Effort To Tell Someone!

God has placed us here as witnesses of him.

Those 500 on the mountain were witnesses to who Christ was!

We are now witnesses to who Christ is!

Those followers had to do it the hard way.

They had to travel to cities and spread the word to tell people about Christ.

It would take weeks, months, years, decades to fully share the gospel of Christ.

Today we have technology on our side.

We have the internet at home.

We have the internet at our fingertips.

The gospel would have to be carried from place to place.

Letters would have to be written and read.

Today we can share the gospel thousands of miles with a text.

Today we can share the gospel across the globe with an email.

Today we can share the gospel to hundreds, if not thousands with a “share.”

When we ask you to share the message with someone…

We’re asking you to do what Christ told us to do.

Make An Effort And Tell Someone!

The bible tells us in more places also!

Mark 13:10

10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.

The good news MUST be preached to all nations…

The gospel must be shared with everyone.

It HAS to be!

Psalm 96:3

3 Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

This is written to God’s people.

We Are God’s Witnesses!

We work together to let others know who God is!

Romans 10:14

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

How can someone become a follower if they don’t believe?

How can someone believe if they haven’t heard?

How can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Well here’s the thing…

Here at GLC, we preach the word.

Here at GLC we give lots of material to share with others.

I see it a lot!

I get tagged on Social Media sometimes when people take quotes from the messages.

Some people are sharing the gospel!

But we are “preaching” God’s word.

When we share it with you…how do others hear?

Any Time GLC Makes A Post, Or A Video Or A Live, That’s An Opportunity To Tell Someone!

Remember we grow as a unit.

If we receive word that will bless us?

Why not share it so it can bless someone else?

You Are Sharing The Word Of God!

The things we teach here at GLC are word based.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Any time we share the word…it’s useful for many things.

We just finished up a series on peace.

I have received a lot of personal messages from people who are NOT members of GLC who needed it.

Share It All!  You Never Know What Someone Else Is Going Through!

We know the word can be powerful to bring us through situations.

Sometimes we may hear a message early for something coming up later.

You might hear a message about God your deliverer…

Just in time for the trial that was on it’s way.

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God knows what his people need to hear.

God also knows what his people need to be reminded of.

That word is given out…

You help us to get it to more people!

Each message…each sermon has a reach.

GLC has x followers on social media.

GLC has x subscribers on YouTube.

If the goal is to take it to all nations…we need as many people as possible to see it.

They need this word!

10 people listening right now can probably out “reach” the church.

This is why the great commission was told to hundreds and not 1 person.

Jesus could have told 1 person, but it takes.

The Gospel Is Shared Through Everyone’s Effort, Not Just One Person!

Collectively our reach can carry the gospel anywhere.

If the people watching now would share it.

And the people when they hear it would share it…

In today’s time…

This message of Christ could go anywhere.

Something we do really well:

Galatians 6:6

6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.

I’m blessed through your stories!

Many of you make a big effort to stay encouraging me!

It helps to let me know God is speaking.

And I USUALLY say…

Thank you for telling me.

Help me tell someone else.

When it comes to sharing.

Here’s a hard question for those who don’t:

Are We Ashamed To Share The Gospel?

This is a hard question…

But let’s talk about it.

Even Peter denied Jesus 3 times.

Peter?

The disciple?

The one who walked with Jesus?

The one who believed in him so much he walked on water towards him?

The one who got sword happy when someone stepped to Jesus?

He straight disowned him.

So if Peter the disciple can do it…

We can too.

So before we get upset at the word ashamed…

What does ashamed mean?

Ashamed - adj

  1. embarrassed or guilty because of one's actions, characteristics, or associations.
  2. reluctant to do something through fear of embarrassment or humiliation.

Are ashamed because of the actions of God?

Prob not.

Are we ashamed through fear of embarrassment?

There used to be a time when people would be embarrassed to say something around church people.

Now the church people are embarrassed to say stuff around others.

Do we talk about God when with others?

Are we waiting for it to organically to come up?

Do you know if the people in your circle are even believers?

The Word of God Gives Us Power, Not Shame!

Romans 1:16

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

How will people know if we don’t tell it?

Remember you aren’t sharing to argue.

You’re sharing to help others.

The Words You Share Will Impact Those Who It’s Supposed To!

 1 Corinthians 1:18

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

This is saying not everyone will get it.

But those who need it will.

They will get it because of you!

You are sharing the word of God!

God is using you to touch someone else’s life!

John 10:27

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Those who need it will receive it.

Share it for those who need it.

Luke 10:2

2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

We need your help.

We need to get the word out.

We need to give God’s message to others.

Every share works to change someone else’s life.

Thank you for all your support so far.

But we still have more work to do.

If you haven’t helped us to get the word out yet.

We need you.
