There is a transition between John chapter 12 and John chapter 13. Jesus ends his public ministry with His final words in chapter 12 and makes an appeal to the general public to believe in the light and walk in the light before it is too late. Then he departed from them and hid himself so that they could no longer hear his voice John 12:36.

Beginning in Chapter 13, he began to reveal the secrets of the Kingdom of God only to those who believed in Him. He treats them as a special people and shows them things that he hides from the world.

It is in chapters 13 through the end of 17 that we learn unique things that were hidden until he gave them to the ones he loved.
