The Guiding Light Church/Liberty Highlands Community Garden was established in April, 2010 with the purpose of growing fresh vegetables for free distribution to seniors living in the neighborhood and people attending the church. It is located on approximately two acres of land at the intersection of John Rogers Drive and Brownlee Heights Road.
The garden offers important health and social benefits. In our studies, we have learned that consumption of fresh vegetables can help control high blood pressure and obesity. It is our desire to combat these health issues by providing healthy vegetables to those suffering with these illnesses, therefore leading them to productive lives. Socially, the garden provides an opportunity for the neighbors and the church to come together with a common goal. Relationships are established and enhanced which promotes a better community.
