Last week we talked about Affirmations.

Affirmations:

  1. The action or process of affirming something.

affirm - to state as a fact.

We state things as facts.

This is where Positive Affirmations come in.

Positive Affirmations Are Positive and Uplifting Statements We Repeat To Describe What We Want

You hear these in all types of ways.

From last week:

No One Controls My Life But Me; I Will Not Let Others Dictate My Day

You are STATING people will not control your day.

They actually might be at the moment.

But you are stating as fact that you are taking control “now.”

According to studies:

Positive Affirmations were good for you!

Positivepsychology.com

It’s helpful in decreasing stress.

It’s helpful in increasing our behavior.

It’s helpful to let the small stuff roll off our backs.

Jonathan’s current favorite movie series:

Cars

An animated movie about cars that act like people.

It starts in a track race.

Like Nascar.

Lightening McQueen in the very beginning.

“Speed. I am speed. 1 winner. 42 losers.  I eat losers for breakfast.”

In the movie he was proven as one of the top 3.

He was making affirmations over himself.

This is to make him perform better.

We do it at times to help us focus.

“I can do this.”

“I’ve done this 100 times before.”

It helps calm our mind.

It helps us focus.

Affirmations are productive!

Declaring things are productive!

Affirmations that are positive are good for you!

Affirmations are biblical!

The Bible Teaches Us To Speak Things!

We looked last week at how God created things in the beginning.

God said “Let there Be Light”

God said…it happened.

What else did God say?

Genesis 1:26

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

God said that man would be made in 2 ways:

We Are Made:

  1. In God’s Image
  2. In God’s Likeness

Being made in God’s image means we look similar to God.

You may not have seen a poisonous snake in person.

But you can learn what they look like from a book.

Then when you see them, you know to stay away.

There may have been animals we’ve seen in the zoo we’ve only seen in a book.

But we know them by their image.

We know them by what they look like.

You can guess a drawing based on image.

Shadow Puppets on a wall…we recognize them.

Children - Drawing a house.

Rectangle with a triangle on top.

It has the attributes of a house.

We know it used on its image.

This is how we are made.

In the IMAGE of God.

We Are All Made In The Image Of God!

Each of us is made in his image.

Weird we went through a time when people failed to see us as images of God.

When the image of God was determined by your color and no other attributes.

  1. We Are Made In The Likeness Of God

Likeness meaning acting “like.”

We used to act like our teachers.

Our children act like us.

We CAN act like our friends.

Another way to look at it:

Many times, a parent can be good at something;

Sports, Math, School period.

And the children adopt that trait.

Just like that…we have adopted traits from God.

God Has Made Our Words Powerful Also!

Proverbs 18:21

21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Our words have power!

Our words can change moods!

You ever watch an argument on social media?

Words are powerful!

Colossians 4:6

6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

WE are to watch our words.

Because our words do things!

God Gave Our Words Power!

This is where we have to speak the right things!

So here is the question:

If Our Words Have Power, Why Not Speak The Word Which IS POWER!

These are called Biblical Affirmations!

They are MUCH better than Positive Affirmations.

It’s great to speak positive over yourself…BUT

Without the bible…they’re just positive.

God isn’t involved.

“No One Controls My Mood But Me”

You’re saying YOU gotta control my mood.

Instead use what the bible says:

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

Why make life hard?

Whatever We Can Do For Ourselves, God Can Do Better!

Put it in God’s hands!

Last week we went over some biblical affirmations.

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. "I Don’t Have To Be Afraid Of Anyone!”

{Psalm 23}

I will fear no evil…for God is with me.

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “God Keeps Me Sane And Stable!”

{Psalm 125:1}

God if I trust in you…I cannot be shaken.

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “I Am Chosen With A Purpose By God!”

{Ephesians 1:4}

He chose us in him before all creation to be holy and blameless in his sight.

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “I Am Free!”

{Romans 8:1-2}

 There is no condemnation…for Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death.

I am new in Christ and FREE!

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “God Is With Me”

{Psalm 46:1; Joshua 1:9}

God is our refuge!

He will be with us wherever we go.

Let’s look at some additional affirmations for this week:

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “I Am The Head, Not The Tail”

{Deuteronomy 28:13; Isaiah 33:15-16}

 

Deuteronomy 28:13

13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.

The Lord will make you the HEAD and not the TAIL.

All you have to do is follow the commands God set.

You will always be at the top, not the bottom.

Isaiah 33:15-16

15 He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil— 16          this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.

“His bread will be supplied.”

You can read that as “food” or “paper.”

God will control it.

We don’t have to figure out how to find wealth.

We don’t have to figure how to make it in life.

We don’t have to figure how to find happiness.

All we have to do today is find and follow God.

HE does everything else!

Matthew 25:23

23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!

All we have to do is follow him.

God will work the details out!

Let God Figure It Out!

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “I Can Get Through Whatever Today Brings With God’s Help!”

{Psalm 89:17; Philippians 4:13}

We can always say that today will be the “best day ever!”

But every day won’t be your best day.

John 16:33

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Sometimes we set ourselves up because we don’t believe that we will have trouble sometimes.

Whenever Trouble Comes, God Will Be Our Strength

Psalm 89:17

17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.

Who is their strength?

God is!

He is their strength!

Philippians 4:12-13

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

I can do all things from him who gives me strength.

Even when I don’t feel like it.

 “I Can Get Through Today With God’s Help!”

“I Can Make It Through This Trial With God’s Help!”

Even when the trial seems too hard.

Even when the temptations seem overwhelming!

You can do it with God’s help.

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “God Is Speaking Today To Guide Me Into Good Things!”

{Isaiah 58:11; Psalm 32:8; Jeremiah 29:11}

Isaiah 58:11

11 The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.

He will GUIDE you always.

We aren’t just walking alone.

God will direct our footsteps!

Psalm 32:8

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.

 He will tell us what to do!

“Don’t do this…do that!”

“Don’t make this investment…do that one.”

and for some of us:

“DO SOMETHING!”

Isaiah 30:21

21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Whichever direction you go in….

God speaks…

He is guiding you!

What is he guiding us to?

Good things!

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

{Someone say:}

"God Wants To Lead Me To Good Things”

He cares about you that much!

You Don’t Have To Figure It Out!  Let God Do It!

 

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “Today, I Am Blessed!”

{Psalm 32:1; Luke 11:28; Jeremiah 17:7}

 Psalm 32:1

1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven.

Blessed is the person whose sins are now covered.

Who is that person?

According to Biblical Affirmation #4 “I Am Free,”

That person is you.

YOU ARE BLESSED!

Luke 11:27-28

27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” 28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Jesus says you who follow his commands…YOU are blessed!

You…who hear and follow what God has to say to you.

You are blessed!

Jeremiah 17:7

7 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

Because you trust in the Lord.

Because HE has forgiven your sins.

Because YOU follow the word of the Lord.

You can look yourself in the mirror each morning and say.

“Today, I Am Blessed.”

You’ll be blessed tomorrow also!

And the next day!

Biblical Affirmation:

  1. “No Weapon Formed Against Me Today Will Prosper”

{Isaiah 54:17; Isaiah 50:9; Psalm 57:6}

Isaiah 54:17

17 no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.

This doesn’t say the weapon won’t form.

It says it won’t prosper.

It doesn’t say the attack won’t happen.

It says it won’t win.

People may try to smear your name.

But you will win in the end.

Isaiah 50:9

9 It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me. Who is he that will condemn me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths will eat them up.

God is with you helping you!

Who will stand up to him?

They’ll wear out.

Psalm 57:6

6 They spread a net for my feet—

I was bowed down in distress.

They dug a pit in my path—

but they have fallen into it themselves.            Selah

The traps they set for you will be traps for them.

People have it in for you…but don’t realize your father is protecting you.

Selah means think about it…

All the work people put in to trap you.

God’s gonna cause them to fall into it.

Like Daniel, it might LOOK like they won…

But God has YOU protected.

Today, God Has Me Covered!
