This World Is Not Our Home, Heaven Is Our Home

This World Is Not Our Home, Heaven Is Our Home

(Repeat it)

1 Pe 2:11 (NIV84) — 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

Say “This world is not my home”

Php 3:20 (ESV) — 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Say: “Heaven Is My Home

This teaching will show by scripture support

1) this world is not our home that

(2) heaven is our home and

(3) provide a brief description of Heaven.

  • POINT 1 -This World Is Not Our Home.

    • God, who is love, created a perfect place called Eden in the beginning for his children to live. Everything he created for man was good. He wanted man to live eternally in a perfect environment. Adam choose to do things differently than what God said and ruined this world and the chances of living forever in these bodies.

      • This fallen world, is a result of Adam’s failure to obey God.

      • However, it is only a temporary world that continues to exist only by the grace of God until he establishes a new world for those who do choose to obey him.

      • These physical bodies, we now live in, are not our permanent home.

        • They are dying bodies.

        • They were not meant to live forever.

        • They are imperfect.

        • They are just a temporary loan for us to choose our eternal home,

      • This life is choice driven. God gave us a temporary world and a temporary body to live in to determine where each of us can choose where to spend our eternity.

        • That will be either in the presence of God our Father and creator in heaven, or

        • in the place where he is not, commonly called hell.

      • So, the choices we make in this temporary world will determine how we will live permanently in the new world God will create to restore the world he intended before man screwed it up.

    • We as the children of God, (those that have accepted his to become his children) don’t belong here! He intends for us to live eternally in a perfect environment.

      • We have to remember; we are called aliens and strangers in this world. It is important we understand, this temporary world is not our home!

      • When these temporary bodies die, the body goes back to the dust from which it came and the soul goes back to God from where it came. Then God sends the soul to where it chose to spend its eternity.

    • In the future at the 2nd Coming, He has prepared a new heaven and a new earth for those who have accepted his offer to become children of God.

Re 21:1–3 (ESV) — 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

Say “This world is not my home”

    • This confirmed by Jesus when speaking to his disciples (those who chose to follow him),

Jn 15:19 (ESV) — 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

      • We have been chosen from out of the world.

      • This world is not our home!

        • Jesus said this! Therefore, we must stop acting like this world is our home.

    • Then again, in his prayer to the Father about us Jesus said,.

Jn 17:14–17 (ESV) — 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

      • He repeats this twice! Vs 14,16

      • We must begin to see ourselves as aliens and strangers passing through this world on the narrow road that leads to life.

      • This world and our bodies should never be thought of as our home. It is just a temporary home until we get to our permanent home.

2 Co 5:1 (ESV) — 1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Say “This world is not my home”

      • When we truly come to know this, we are told,

Ro 12:2 (ESV) — 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Say “This world is not my home”

  • POINT 2 - Heaven Is Our Home, This World is Not Our Home

Heaven is the perfect place God has provided for us to be with him.

Php 3:20 (ESV) — 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

Eph 2:5–6 (ESV) — 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

See: When we die we are lifted up to be with Jesus!

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

Eph 2:19 (ESV) — 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

  • POINT 3 - Description of Heaven

    • 8 Points

      • Heaven is just a Heartbeat Away

      • Heaven Is a Place Where The Father Lives - The Great “I AM”

      • Heaven is a Place of LOVE

      • Heaven is the Place of our Eternal Reward of Joy

      • Heaven is the place of our Eternal Mansion

      • Heaven is a City Designed and Built by God

      • Heaven is Unimaginable

      • Heaven is Eternal because God is Eternal

    • Heaven is just a heartbeat away!

      • We are one heartbeat away from heaven.

        • Yes, if our heart stopped beating, we, the children of God, would be away from our friends in the body but, instantaneously we would be in the presence of Christ!

2 Co 5:6–8 (ESV) — 6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

          • At home with the Lord means in heaven.

          • Death is not the end of life for a child of God.

      • If death is not the end of life for child of God, then, when they die they immediately go to heaven.

        • Confirmed by Jesus in Lk 16:22 (ESV) — 22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried,

        • It could happen to any one of us. In the next second, On the way home, tonight or tomorrow.

          • One second, we are here and in the next second we are in the presence of the Lord.

    • Heaven Is a Place Where The Father Lives

It is a real place. If it were not so, Jesus would have told us.

Mt 6:9 (ESV) — 9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

Mt 5:16 (ESV) — 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

MAIN POINT! The Great “I AM” Lives There!

      • Heaven is beyond our comprehension

      • It is a place built by “I AM”. It is whatever we desire or need!

      • WHO IS GOD?

      • 1 Jn 4:16 (ESV) — 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Jn 3:16 (ESV) — 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Ro 5:8 (ESV) — 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    • Heaven is a place of LOVE!  Because God is perfect, there is nothing but love in heaven! God will not allow it!

1 Jn 5:7 (NKJV) — 7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

      • God the father is there who in love created this wonderful universe and by love gave man dominion over all the earth.

      • God the son is there who in love gave his life to redeem us from the curse of the law of sin and death.

      • God the Holy Spirit is there by which we know the love of God that has been poured into our hearts.

      • Only good will be for those in heaven - Ps 84:11 (ESV) — 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

      • There is no evil there.

        • No sin, no sorrow, no pain, no suffering.

        • All things it came about by the failure of Adam and Eve are eradicated.

      • Heaven is nothing but perfection. There is perfect love!

      • Re 21:27 (ESV) — 27 But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

      • We will see him face to face there. We will experience complete understanding of the great love that God has towards us and what he has prepared for us in heaven. 1 Cor 13:12; Matt 5:8

        • But now we see as through a glass, darkly. We have only a vague idea of the wonderful blessings that await us.

    • Heaven is the place of our eternal reward of joy!

Mt 25:20–21 (ESV) — 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.

All will not be treated the same in heaven, but each will be given a special place according to their service to God in this life.

Matthew 16:27 (ESV): 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

1 Corinthians 3:12–15 (ESV): 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.

14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.

15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

2 Corinthians 9:6 (ESV): The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully

      • You will be rewarded according to how you serve God.

      • 1 Co 3:8 (NIV84) — 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

        • There will not be anyone envying the rewards others receive because they know they receive them righteously.

          • Each one receives according to what they did.

        • We have no one to blame for our gain or our loss except ourselves.

        • God determines the work you must do, and it is God who determines how to reward you. Do not become discouraged if you feel your work is small.

        • Mark 9:41 (ESV): For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.

        • We need to realize no matter how small a kind work we do; we shall receive a reward for it.

          • If there’s an opportunity to be of service for God, recognize if you do it, you shall be rewarded for it.

          •  No matter what others think, God who is the righteous judge, will give you the right reward.

      • God also says we can be rewarded or suffer loss because of the words we speak to one another.

Mt 12:36–37 (ESV) — 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

        • You will be rewarded for kind words and penalized for harsh ones.

    • Heaven is the place of our eternal mansion

Jn 14:2 (NKJV) — 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

      • The place we receive our immortal bodies

2 Co 5:1 (ESV) — 1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

    • Heaven is a City designed and built by God for the Saints of God, His children.

Heb 11:10 (ESV) — 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

      • Heb 12:22 Says heaven is the City of the living God.

      • The 4th heaven is the City of heaven we will eternally dwell with God here on earth.

      • Re 21:2 (ESV) — 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

    • Heaven is a place of reunion of the family of God

      • All your saved relatives who are of the family of God are there. They have been waiting for you.

Eph 2:19 (ESV) — 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

Eph 3:14–15 (ESV) — 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,

        • You will know all of them. Remember, they knew Moses and Elijah on the mountain? How? Heaven is a perfect place.

    • Heaven is unimaginable. We cannot imagine what it is like to be in the presence of Almighty God in heaven his home. It exceeds our ability to comprehend it.

      • If we could truly have an idea of what heaven was like, all of us would be praying to die right now.

    • Heaven is eternal because God is eternal – on and on, with blessings every day, a joy that goes on forever.

  • Knowing what I have now shared, how shall we live?

    • Matthew 6:19–20 (ESV): “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

    • Now, I want to remind you of this little speck.

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

      • Your life here is very short! James said

Jas 4:14 (ESV) — 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

      • Mk 8:36 (ESV) — 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

      • God never intended for this world to be our home so he has given us a choice to choose heaven or hell just like he gave Adam and Eve a choice.

        • God wants to choose heaven!

    •

      • We should not focus totally on our well-being in this temporal place that is not our home, but we should focus more on that eternal place that is our eternal home, heaven.

Say, This World is Not My Home, Heaven Is My Home,”

      • We should rise every morning with the intent to give God the glory every day knowing that God is observing our actions.

      • Every day is an opportunity to glorify God. We do not have to worry about losing our reward. The more we live for him on this little speck, the more he will reward us in heaven.

        • The way we live our lives moment by moment, even second by second can make a difference eternally.

      • Everyone will be rewarded according to how they have served for the glory of God and the rewards will be eternal!

        • At death, there is no opportunity to add to the work that one has done. Their labors have ended.

These bodies are not our home. They are just a temporary loan until we get our eternal home in the heavens with our father.

1 Pe 2:11 (NIV84) — 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
