The Son Of Man Is Glorified Summary

Part Two

In John 13:31–32, Jesus declares that His death would glorify both Himself and the Father. Though the cross appeared to be humiliation and defeat from a human perspective, it was in fact the highest display of God’s glory. At the cross, Jesus revealed God’s justice, holiness, faithfulness, and love.

  • Justice: Sin demanded payment. God, being just, required death as the penalty. Christ bore the curse in our place (Romans 3:25; Galatians 3:13), showing that no sin goes unpunished.

  • Holiness: God’s holiness cannot tolerate sin (Habakkuk 1:13). Even Jesus, bearing our sin, was forsaken (Matthew 27:46; Psalm 22:1–2). His holiness demanded separation.

  • Faithfulness: God fulfilled His ancient promises of redemption (Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 53:5–7; 2 Corinthians 1:20). Though centuries passed, He proved true to His word in Christ’s sacrifice.

  • Love: Above all, the cross revealed God’s love (John 3:16; Romans 5:8). While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, reconciling us to God and granting eternal life.

The cross, therefore, is not a symbol of defeat but of victory—victory over sin, death, and Satan (1 Corinthians 15:55; Revelation 12:11). For believers, it is the ultimate assurance that God’s character never changes. As Stephen’s vision at his martyrdom confirmed (Acts 7:54–60), Christ is glorified and reigning as Lord.
