Matthew 5:13-15

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

The Lord calls us salt and light for the world. we aren’t supposed to hide these things.

You don’t take a light and hide it.

The light is supposed to light everyone in the whole house. We are to be salt.

But not just salt…

We Are To Be A Light For Others!

He tells us more about ourselves.

Deuteronomy 28:13

13 The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.

YOU are the head.

NOT the tail.

That means there are some that might be the tail. It’s NOT you!

There is a top…

there is a bottom.

If you are his.

You are the top!

You are made to be different! And what should we be doing?

Matthew 5:16

16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

We are to let our light shine… so others can see it…

and praise our Father.

We are to light the path so others can see the Lord!

It’s not for us!

It’s for him!

We are set apart from the world… to point others back to him!

We Are To Lead Others To Christ!

If we are to lead others to Christ… That makes us a LEADER!

We are to be a leader for others!

{repeat}

“I Am A Leader!”

Let’s start today:

We are working to build this leader up in us.

Message Title:

“Building The Leader In You pt. 2”

We are still looking at the life of Moses.

and taking leadership lessons from him.

Where we left off:

The Lord has visited Moses in the burning bush. he has told him to go get his people.

But Moses has been making excuses.

Exodus 3:13-15

13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

Moses asks who should I say sent me. The Lord has an answer.

He continues:

Exodus 3:16-18

16 “Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob— appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. 17 And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 18 “The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.’

Then the Lord says go get the elders.

He tells him what to say. He tells him who will listen.

The Lord let’s him know the plan. Moses didn’t have a plan.

Which leads us to #5.

{Building The Leader In You}

  • Godly Leaders Realize That The Lord Has All The Answers When They Don’t!

Let’s just think from Moses’ point of view.

How was Moses going to go talk to Pharaoh? How would Moses respond if Pharaoh said no?

What if the people didn’t believe him?

Moses can’t do it on his own strength.

Same goes for us.

The Lord has given us a good mind.

We can think…

we can plan.

But one thing we can’t do: is see the future.

Your BEST predictions are still a guess.

You don’t know what will happen this week. not even this evening!

But we can be thankful for a God who sits outside of time. Who knows everything we don’t!

Revelation 1:8

8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

The Lord is the alpha AND omega.

Who currently is. Who was before. Who will be.

THAT God is the one who is with you.

You Might Not Have All The Answers, But God Does!

The Lord already has the future figured out! Abram - go to the land I WILL show you.

Abram doesn’t know where it is…God does! He knows everything!

He told Moses a detailed plan! What else does he know?

What’d he tell Moses?

Exodus 3:19

19 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him.

The Lord tells him more about what’s going to happen. He already knows that the king of Egypt is stubborn.

But the Lord knows our obstacles also!

The Lord Already Knows The Problems And People That You Will Have To Deal With!

He knows those that will oppose you. He knows those that will lie on you.

He knows whatever it is that is going to rise up against you.

But he doesn’t JUST know.

He has the answer!

How will the Lord handle stubborn Pharaoh?

Exodus 3:20

20 So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.

he knows that Pharaoh is going to act up… But he knows what will MAKE him give up!

The Lord Doesn’t Just Know The Future, He Already Has A Plan For It!

You don’t have to worry when you have your God working for you! The Lord is looking to accomplish what he needs!

And THIS God calls you a leader!

{repeat}

“I Am A Leader!”

Let’s go to the next one:

{Building The Leader In You}

  • Godly Leaders Know That What They Do Will Be Rewarded!

There was a reward that was stored up for the Lord’s people…

Exodus 3:8

8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

To rescue them from the Egyptians (slavery) and take them to another land.

a GOOD land

a SPACIOUS land.

flowing with milk and honey.

This was the promised land. if they did the work…

the would be rewarded!

This was set aside as a reward for them… But it wasn’t just that.

Exodus 3:21-22

21 “And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. 22 Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.”

The Lord’s people were in slavery to the Egyptians. they spent all this time serving them.

but the Lord says that when his people leave.

They will not leave empty handed. That they will give you silver and gold. And you will plunder the Egyptians.

for all the years they’ve stolen from them…

the Lord says his people are going to get it back.

When You Lead God’s Way, He Will Make Sure You Get Everything Back That Others Took From You!

It may have been years that people have taken from you. They have taken your money, peace and joy.

but with the Lord will give it back!

You May Not Have Anything When You Show Up, But When You Leave You’re Taking Everything!

The Lord will reward his people for what they do! Our God is a God who believes in return!

1 Corinthians 15:58

58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the  Lord is not in vain.

When you put the work in.

the Lord will reward you!

Ephesians 6:7-8a

7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does…

Do the work the Lord wants. Because He will reward.

{Building The Leader In You}

  • Godly Leaders Use What The Lord Has Already Given Them!

Exodus 4:1-3

Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. 3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.

What did he have in his hand? he had a staff.

He was told to throw it on the ground. the staff becomes a snake.

Moses runs from it.

If Moses ran from it…

the staff didn’t have a habit of becoming a snake.

{Question}:

How Long Had Moses Had The Staff?

He was tending the flock of his father in law. he could have been doing this for years. we don’t know when he got the staff.

we just know he already had it. Moses decided to pick it up one day.

the Lord decided to use that.

Your Gifts And Talents Are What The Lord Will Use!

You will find in your life on your job

around others your walk is unique.

When you are on that walk,

you will PICK UP and CARRY things to help you. you will develop skills.

you will find strengths.

you will have things that are good on their own… but in the hands of the Lord…

they will be even greater!

For example:

When Moses goes before Pharaoh.

Exodus 7:8-9

8 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Perform a miracle,’ then say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,’ and it will become a snake.”

They go and do as the Lord showed Moses earlier.

Exodus 7:10-12a

10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. 11 Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: 12 Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake.

just like your skills.

there may be others who might have similar skills to you. they might even look like they can do what you can

the might look better.

But YOU have the Lord on your side when they don’t.

Exodus 7:12

12 Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

Even someone else’s best can’t compete with the Lord!

Others Might Try And Copy What You Do, But They Can Never Copy The Power Of God Working In You!

You are a leader!

{repeat}

“I Am A Leader!”
