Message title:

“Walk This Way! (Are You On The Right Path?)

We have interesting ways to describe things.

Usually when you asked people how they’re doing you’ll get different responses.

usually doing fine. doing “well.”

if you ask people in church.

“I’m blessed!”

That’s a great answer!

that’s the CHURCH answer!

It’s what we typically say! What does that look like?

It can mean lots to different people Do you know what it means to be blessed?

Today we’re going to talk about the state of being blessed… and hint and how we can stay in that state!

Concise Dictionary of Christian Theology describes it.

Bless (Concise Dictionary of Christian Theology):

- In reference to God, to bestow some good upon a human.

This is a great definition because it makes it very plain. This simple definition means:

When the Lord blesses you He gives you good things! This means:

When The Lord Blesses You:

-It’s Never Anything Bad

-It’s Always For Your Good

-It’s Always For Your Benefit

So when we ask in church how are you? and people say we’re blessed…

it means things may not be going perfect.

but

“The Lord Has Done Some Good In My Life!”

But let’s describe it more. What does it look like?

What Does It Mean To Be Blessed?

There are TONS of scriptures about being blessed.

Let’s look at a few of the GOOD things the Lord can give you. Being blessed means having things like:

Being Blessed Can Mean Having:

  • Joy

That good thing that he gives can be joy!

Romans 15:13

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

May the God of hope FILL you. that’s a gift.

he’s giving it to you!

Isaiah 55:12

12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

This scripture is RIGHT after verse 10.

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

This is FRESH in terms of being from the Lord.

He says his word won’t return empty… and the next sentence.

and you will go out in joy…

Where does it come from?

it comes as a good thing from him!

  • Strength & Peace

Psalm 29:11

11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Again a GIFT.

a gift of strength. a GIFT of peace.

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

This scripture is important because there are some things in life that are too much for us. we can’t handle everything in this life.

but the Lord tells us that we don’t have the same peace others have. we have access to HIS peace.

Stuff will happen.

he told us to take heart in HIM his peace he GIVES to us.

it’s a blessing!

it’s a gift!

When your life may seem like it’s turning upside down. you still have a peace.

Being Blessed Means You CAN Keep It Together When Others Can’t!

What’s crazy is the stories of the things you’ve been through.

Some of you have been through enough in your lifetime to write 5 books and 3 movies! but you are still here!

You know you would have lost it long ago! the Lord is KEEPING you!

the Lord is SUSTAINING you!

  • Healing

the blessing of healing.

Psalm 30:2

2 O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.

Remember these are good things the Lord gives!

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

Who heals ALL your diseases!

Give him praise…

because he blesses us!

We are blessed because we can call to the Lord and he responds with healing! We have to remember:

Anything Good From The Lord Is A Blessing!

This is why we should spend time “counting our blessings.” Because the Lord gives GOOD things to his people!

Too many times we forget all the things the Lord has done for us! These are all gifts!

Too many to count!

  • Satisfaction & Contentment

Psalm 103:5 (NCV)

5 He satisfies me with good things and makes me young again, like the eagle.

He satisfies us with good things.

he doesn’t make us satisfied with mediocre things.

we tend to accept less than stuff… because that’s the best we can SEE.

but the Lord knows what truly good for us. and not only does he give us those good things.

he satisfies us with them.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NCV) a

8 And God can give you more blessings than you need.

We are satisfied…

because we have good things!

and not only do we have good things… he gives us MORE than we need!

Like a meal that you’re given.

you aren’t just given an appetizer. you are given the full meal.

and can eat until you can’t eat anymore!

These are some internal things…

But being blessed can be external also.

Being Blessed Can Mean Having:

  • Provision

Provision is making sure you are equipped for the mission you’re on. Let’s reread the last scripture.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NCV) b

8 And God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything—enough to give to every good work.

The Lord gives…

and he gives PLENTY.

Think of the Israelites leaving Egypt. (Exodus 16)

they were complaining about food.

The Lord blessed them with manna.

he told them to get as much as they needed. they didn’t have to ration it.

it was more than enough for everyone.

When Jesus fed the 5000 (Matthew 14) from 2 fish and 5 loaves.

he fed 5000 men (even more with women and children) and EVERYONE was satisfied.

The Lord blesses us. Not JUST for us to have.

But he blesses us

so we can do the work he called us to do.

{repeat}

“The Lord Blesses Me With More Than Enough!”

  • Prosperity

Deuteronomy 28:12

12 The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.

He will open the heavens…to send rain on your land. and BLESS the work of your hands.

Not only are you blessed internally. What you produce will be blessed also!

Proverbs 10:22 (ESV)

22 The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

The blessing of the Lord can make you rich. not just money…but other things.

and he adds NO sorrow with it!

But this isn’t JUST talking about money.

It’s about everything we discussed already and MORE!

These are 6 things that the Lord blesses us with.

Now let’s talk about what the bible says on how to be blessed.

Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Blessed is the man.

who does not…*STOP*

Scripture says here that you can be blessed. but there’s a condition to get it.

There are GOOD things the Lord is waiting to give us.

But we can miss out on them if we don’t fulfill the condition.

If You Want To Be Blessed, There Are Some Things You Need To Do!

We will get into that next week…

but a reminder of what we talked about.

{recap}

Being blessed is when we receive good from our God. When he blesses us:

it’s never bad

it’s always good and for our benefit!

Being Blessed Can Mean Having:

  • Joy

  • Strength and Peace

  • Healing

  • Satisfaction and Contentment

  • Provision

  • Prosperity

These are all GOOD things the Lord can give us.

But we see from Psalm 1:1…

some of these good things might be waiting on you to do something. or to stop doing something.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The Lord has many GOOD things he wants to give us.

But if we aren’t careful…

those thoughts/plans are JUST that.

WE have to be in the right place.

Let’s look at Psalm 1:1 next week and see if we are in the right place.
