Message Title:

A Father’s Love

We are going to go over the plan that was set for us from the beginning. We’ll break it into 3 parts to see how the Lord always wanted things to be…

and gave the ultimate sacrifice to get there.

To all our fathers, step fathers, mentors:

Thank You Brothers - The World Is Better Because Of You

Today we honor the men who got up tired and came to church anyway. those who wake up each morning an press through for their families.

The men who carried burdens nobody knew about.

The men who sacrificed dreams so their children could pursue theirs.

Page 7 of 7

The men who kept showing up when life wasn't easy.

You have been an amazing pillar for not only your children but those who have been connected to you.

The sacrifices you’ve made have helped others to better themselves… That is what a good father looks like.

Thank you for what you’ve done.

The world is a better place because of you. You are making a difference.

one who sacrifices for those who are important to him I believe the Lord is proud of you for what you do… Because it’s not easy…

but you continue to push through.

We also know that while the Lord is proud… there are other levels he has for us also.

Different things he asks of us. different things to look at.

And those things are in the word as to the heart of a father. Many of us are doing amazing works…

Because as we talked about last week.

There is a way the world looks at a particular thing and then there’s the way God looks at it.

The Bible Defines A Father Different Than The World

The reason we’re looking at this different…

is because Father’s don’t realize how valuable they are.

The Enemy Would Love For A Father To Believe Their Greatest Contribution Is A Paycheck

Page 7 of 7

You could work to leave 10 million dollars to your children. but what happens when the money is spent?

what happens when the car needs to be replaced? what happens when…life happens.

that’s why it’s bigger than JUST a contribution.

It’s not just about leaving in inheritance.

many of us are trying to leave other things… business sense

life sense

how to fight

how to stand up for himself even common sense!

Your Greatest Legacy Isn’t What You Leave To Them - It’s Who You Lead Them To!

We’re seeing there is something more than just what we can leave them physically… but making sure they have something even greater

Proverbs 22:6

6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Training up a child in the way they should go. making sure they know who the Lord is.

because a relationship with the Lord is better than anything else.

It’s the greatest gift they’ll ever receive.

Psalm 63:3-5

3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

His love is better than life.

and by our praising of him…

Page 7 of 7

our souls will be satisfied.

These are the things we have to teach to our children. Because they have these things to hold on to.

In 2nd Timothy, Paul credits Timothy’s faith to his family…

2 Timothy 1:5

5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

they taught him and led him.

Timothy was taught about the Lord… and he continued in that!

What you do matters.

Your Greatest Contribution Is Your Presence, Your Example, AND Your Faith!

Let’s look at each of these quickly.

Our Loved Ones Need Our Presence

Deuteronomy 6:6

6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Talk about them… at home

when you walk when you lie down when you get up

Many of us are doing what we need to do to provide for our children but don’t forget that our children need us as well too.

they need to see us they need time with us

Page 7 of 7

read the bible with them

talk about the Lord with them.

look at when you’re to go through these things… sit AT HOME

WALK on the road

when you lie down/get up in your small personal times together.

this isn’t public teaching…

Influence Isn’t Built In Big Moments - It’s Built In Shared Moments

Time is the language of love…

the moments you spend become the moments they keep.

Our Loved Ones Need To See Our Example

Proverbs 20:7 (NLT)

7 The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them.

More than just go to church…

make sure if you’re serving in the church…that your children SEE you!

Let them hear you pray!

One Of The Greatest Blessings A Child Can Have Is A Strong Christian Influence In Their Life!

Why?

Because scripture tells us there is wisdom in that! Paul also said to Timothy:

2 Timothy 3:15 - since you were little you’ve known the scriptures… and that makes you wise for salvation through your faith.

The Lord told Moses to share his faith with his children and grandchildren…

Page 7 of 7

why?

so they can KNOW who he is.

Proverbs 22:6 (NCV)

6 Train children to live the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray from it.

Training doesn’t come from just “words.” it comes from examples.

A Provider Gives His Children Something To Live On - A Godly Father Gives His Children Something To Live By

then for our last one.

Our Loved Ones Need Our Faith

Ephesians 6:4

4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

The bible tells us that the knowledge of scripture is wisdom.

These are some of the things the Lord says we’re to leave with them.

The best thing we can do as providers is to make sure our children continue to know who the Lord is.

Proverbs 23:24

24 The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him.

Training them as children… when they get older…

it is still there.

There are many who MIGHT have been away from the church… but if you have given them access to the Lord.

there is always something tugging at them to bring them back. i want to end the message with some thoughts for our Fathers:

Page 7 of 7

Thoughts For Fathers:

  • Pray More Than You Think You Need To For Your Family

  • Don’t Let The Things That Can Wait Determine How Much Time You Spend With Your Family

  • Money And Gifts Will Never Be Substitutes To Time With You

  • Remember You Are An Example - They Are Watching Even When You Don’t Think They Are

  • Allow Your Children To See Your Faith! Let Them Hear You Pray For Them And See Your Worship!

  • The Word Will Teach Your Children Things Also. Make Sure Your Voice Is One Of The Loudest They Hear!

  • Keep Encouraging And Speaking Life Into Them. Even As They Get Older, You Can Still Build Confidence, Character, and Courage!
