Message title:

“Stop Complaining, Start Proclaiming! (Changing Our Lives By Changing Our Words)

{Repeat after me}

“I Am A Child Of God!”

{1 John 3:2}

“I Am Strong Because My God Is With Me!”

{Deuteronomy 31:6}

“I Am A Light In The Darkness!”

{Matthew 5:16}

{Check for affirming cards}

{talk to your neighbor and say what’s on your card}

{tell them an affirmation you’ve heard this month}

It’s something about words.

It’s important to realize how powerful our words are.

And why speaking them to ourselves are affirmations

Positive Affirmations Are Positive and Uplifting Statements Said To Motivate

For example:

  • I Am Strong And Resilient

  • I Have The Power To Change

This is a boost to our self-worth.

We are not “weak” individuals…

we tell ourselves that we are strong. and we are consistent through hits.

The second one:

I am not stuck.

I am not trapped.

not to an ideal

not to a specific place or direction I CAN change my direction.

This means that if I set my mind to it…

There is so much I can do.

So we speak to ourselves to “get better.” We read…repeat…

Say things out loud.

“Making Positive Statements” are proven to be good for you!

Positivepsychology.com

It’s helpful in decreasing stress.

It’s helpful in increasing our behavior.

It’s helpful to let the small stuff roll off our backs.

Our words mean things!

Affirmations are productive! Declaring things are productive!

The Bible Teaches Us About The Power Of Our Voice!

The Bible is the example of what words do.

Words make action. Speaking creates change. Proclaiming creates results.

Let’s look at what the bible said God did. In Genesis the Lord created everything. And he did it by his words.

God’s Words Created Something Where There Was Nothing

When he said something… it happened!

What else did God say?

Genesis 1:26-27

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God said that man would be made in 2 ways:

We Are Made:

  • In God’s Image

  • In God’s Likeness

Let’s talk about this passage.

We have different attributes from God!

  • We Are Made In The Image Of God

An image is visible.

a visual representation of something.

When you look at a picture… That’s an image.

When you look at a movie/tv.

That’s an image in motion.

When you watch the game on tv.

That’s not ACTUALLY LeBron on your tv screen. that’s his image.

Our eyes send the images we see to our brains that tell us what it is. We are also created in the image of our parents.

We look at our children to see who they look more like. They aren’t twins of us.

they are similar in image.

There are visible traits you receive from your parents! So God said we are made in his image.

We are created in a way that “looks” like God. Our form is in God’s image.

  • We Are Made In The Likeness Of God

We gave an example before about “acting like.”

This is similar to how we can sometimes relate to our parents. There are things you do that are traits you got from your parents.

You may be gifted musically. You might be gifted athletically.

You might be gifted academically.

There are certain traits you got from your parents.

There are also traits you received from being like God also!

Proverbs 18:21

21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

First we see the tongue has power. Your words have power!

What type of power?

The power of life or death.

Words have effects!

There is something about our words!

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

God Has Given Power To Your Words!

If our words have power. And God’s word has power.

Let’s change from speaking regular affirmations.

Let’s start speaking what the Lord says in his word!

Normal affirmations deal with us.

Biblical affirmations deal with God working THRU us.

Speak Biblical Affirmations Over Yourself!

What are some Biblical Affirmations you can speak over yourself? Here are 5 from last time:

Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Psalm 139:14 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

There is no condemnation…for Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death. I am new in Christ and FREE!

We don’t have to allow people to remind us of who we used to be.

Everyone has a past and through Christ everyone has a future!

Biblical Affirmation:

  • God Is With Me Always!

{Psalm 46:1; Joshua 1:9}

God is our refuge!

He will be with us wherever we go. If he is with us…

There is no place we can go where he is not there.

You are better because you know the Lord!
