It’s Father’s Day!
We want to spend time to make a reference to you. To say thank you.
We all have fathers.
Some of them are still with us.
Some have gone to be with the Lord.
Although it’s called Father’s Day,
we include it here to be bigger because
Father’s Day needs to include more than just those who contributed to a child.
Today we honor fathers:
Step fathers:
we all may know people who are fathers to children who aren’t physically theirs.
Mentors:
those who take the time to encourage someone.
Coaches:
Any man who has had a positive impact on someone else.
Some men may have no children.
but might have groups who consider you a second father. We want to take some time today to celebrate your importance. We honor you.
the load you carry is heavy.
and we cannot thank you enough. Make sure to share this with as many as you can.
send it to the men you know.
the brothers, mentors, fellas to encourage and honor them
because the impact they have is so needed today. what they impart to others is incomparable.
and we need to keep going.
Today we talk about the impact.
That impact is something that influences others. So today, let’s talk about
{Message title:}
The Legacy of A Godly Man
A legacy is a long lasting impact.
When someone has a positive impact on someone, they learn things that can help them on the way.
hopefully those things will be shared with others.
How Many Of Us Have Been Impacted By A Good Father Figure?
and when you have GODLY men doing that. we are creating a lasting legacy.
an impact that can go for generations.
Brothers, we want you to know that you HAVE an impact.
We see throughout the bible that men have impacts on others.
YOU teach more than just life hacks.
YOU teach more than just how to fix things.
But you teach the real “life hacks.” that favor is better than money.
that a relationship with God is better than anything.
This is YOUR gift to share.
Psalm 127:3-5
3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.
This isn’t just about literal sons. This is about impact.
Blessed is a man who has a quiver full… blessed is a man who has a large impact because the teachings you have…
your trust in the Lord
would be taught to many.
We’re about to look at traits from Godly Men who have gone before us.
Godly men like you.
What Are Things Godly Men Teach To Others?
{What Are Things Godly Men Teach To Others?}
Joseph was a man who was mistreated by his own family. his brothers hated him.
although he was his father’s favorite.
he was misunderstood by him also.
We know his brothers wanted to kill him. ultimately decide to sell him into slavery.
his own family turned on him.
He is left alone and eventually sold into Egypt. For years he is suffering.
Hated, enslaved, falsely accused, imprisoned and even lied on.
We know the end of the story.
After decades he is appointed to the 2nd highest in Egypt.
Then the famine happens here come his family…
they are about to starve to death.
they didn’t care about their own brother’s life years ago, but now they want someone to spare them.
Joseph…KNOWING what they did to them. takes them in.
he FORGIVES them.
and he sees the bigger picture.
He even tells his brothers when he has the POWER to kill them
Genesis 45:6
6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Instead of trying to get revenge…he was trying to save his family.
Forgiving Is One Of The Traits Of A True Believer!
These are the type of things we impart to others!
Colossians 3:13
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
The thing is that forgiveness must be TAUGHT. We have a world that will teach the world’s values.
We Have To Teach Others To Solve Their Problems Without Weapons Or Words, But With Forgiveness!
Joseph was a child at first
but he becomes a father later
and do you know what he teaches them? he teaches his children as WELL as everyone
the power of forgiveness.
Even today we learn from his story!
Fathers Teach That Forgiveness Is A Release Of Control Someone Has Over You!
When you can’t forgive…
You give the other person power over you.
they have something they can hold over their head.
Releasing them of that power is better for you.
it’s what God would have you do.
Fathers Teach That We Are The Ones Who Suffer When We’re Unforgiving!
Joseph realizes this and decides to let it go.
Genesis 50:20
20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
While others were trying to figure out how Joseph would be getting even with them… Joseph was more focused on the lesson from it.
Joseph had been through a LOT!
Now We know the Lord sees all.
We also know he leads us.
But was he leading Joseph! through all that??
Absolutely!!
Proverbs 20:24
24 A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
And if his way is to prosper us and not harm us,
that means that the Lord is leading us somewhere.
The Things Others Do To Us Is Another Thing God Will Use To Get The Glory!
So that’s Joseph
{What Are Things Godly Men Teach To Others?}
In Genesis chap 6
The Lord was grieved he made man.
all the evil and wickedness had taken over.
everyone everywhere all over…was bad.
was all evil. But among them was Noah.
Genesis 6:9
9 This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
We know Noah wasn’t perfect… but he was trying.
The Lord decided to flood the earth and start over. He told Noah to build an ark.
he gave him the details of what it would look like.
But this job wouldn’t be done overnight.
Bible Scholars Say It Took Around 120 Years Between Chapter 6 and 7
During that time what did Noah do? He built an ark.
How long???
120 years!?!
for one job?
In today’s time…people won’t spend 120 days on something. Developing a new skill?
Something to better ourselves??
We might not spend 120 minutes on it today.
Even if the Lord told us to…
if we don’t like what we heard…
“The Lord is moving me in another direction.”
And then when the Lord told him to bring the animals on board… Many people would have tapped out there also.
Because how are you gonna feed them?
How are you gonna convince the Lions to eat old food when they know it’s 2 fresh chickens down the hall?
But in spite of all the years to get it done…
Genesis 6:22
22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
But NOAH remained consistent. he remained focused.
When his family over time would have wanted to stop,
he would be the father figure to teach them to lock in.
Can you imagine the ridicule they got for this?
The world was wicked…
a man was building a giant boat
and trying to fill it with animals.
Imagine the opposition to their job…
the ways people would try to sabotage what they were doing. yet Noah and his family remained consistent.
There May Be Some Things That Might Take Longer Than We Would Like. Fathers You Are The Ones To Teach Us To Be Consistent And Focus!
Fathers you are the ones to teach us to keep going when we want to give up.
You are the ones who tell us that consistency builds confidence… and confidence builds character.
You are the ones to tell us when things are happening all around.
to ignore the distractions and focus.
You tell us that hardly anything worth getting comes easy. But hard…consistent work pays off.
Even Grass Can Break Concrete If You Give It Enough Time. Consistency And Focus Pays Off!
Brothers, you are the reminder to others to stay focused and stay consistent. although people might get distracted…
you get them back on target.
Galatians 6:9
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
We have one more we’ll do.
{What Are Things Godly Men Teach To Others?}
We know David was a man after God’s on heart. He LOVED the Lord.
But that devotion wasn’t a secret he kept from his family. In fact…he told them that the Lord wasn’t a myth.
He taught them how to see God.
He summoned the leaders during his transition. and he began to talk to Solomon.
1 Chronicles 28:8-9
8 “So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the LORD your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever. 9 “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
David tells him to listen to the Lord.
and LEAD according to what he says.
We need more brothers to make sure that their children… as well as those they lead know the Lord!
We need to tell them to serve them with devotion. with a willing mind.
to go after the Lord with all they have.
Fathers Talk About The Lord With Your Children!
Remind them that there is a God. That God loves them.
That God will protect and keep them! Pray for your children!
Pray WITH your children!
The bible says to train up a child…
Well David told Solomon to follow the Lord. What can we sum up about Solomon?
Ecclesiastics 12:13
13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
Solomon…a non perfect individual.
Is STILL teaching the lessons from his father. But not from a “story,”
from a GOD he experienced for himself!
Psalm 78:5-7
5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, 6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. 7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.
Someone has to train our children.
either we will do it…
or someone else will…
THAT is how our kids get into stuff…
they are taught things outside of the Lord.
Proverbs 20:7
7 The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.
Why is it blameless?
because the righteous know the Lord.
Why are the children blessed?
because they are going to learn about the Lord also.
There is an impact that should be made. This is the role of a Godly Father!
Brothers, You Are A Pillar! Others Need Us!
{recap:}
Fathers, coaches, mentors, brothers… YOU ARE IRREPLACEABLE!
What you do is beyond measure… and it will last for generations.
