Message Title:

“Undergoing Construction ‘25: The Tools Of Truth pt. 2”

No home/temple is secure without the word. The word is our bible.

It is a book of collections.

which ALL of it is important.

Why Is The Bible Important?

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

ALL scripture…

Your bible

given by inspiration from God “God breathed” {NIV}

People wrote it.

with the Lord over their shoulder… ‘saying “write this!”

The Bible Was Always More Than Just A Book!

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

For the word of God is living and active… it is LIVING.

These are the words of the Lord… and they are powerful.

There are studies that talk about positive effects of reading the bible.

i.e. National Institutes of Health site. They can help with things such as:

  • Mental and Emotional Clarity

  • Renewed Perspective

  • Improved Mindset And Focus these are from studies…

but they are even further detailed in the word!

Let’s continue the study:

{Why Should We Read And Study The Bible?}

  • The Bible Tells How To Be Strong During Hard Times!

This comes from Psalm 119.

Psalm 119 covers ALL types of stuff in the bible…

but it all goes back to the power of the WORD. they’re divided in sections.

Verses 49-56 talk about having faith during affliction.

Psalm 119:49-50

49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. 50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Even in our sufferings…

his promises bring us comfort. his WORD brings life.

Verse 51-56

51 The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. 52 I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them. 53 Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law.

Have you ever had people mock you?

-to make fun of you?

-especially because you try and honor the Lord?

The Bible Gives Us Comfort From All The Stress Of Others!

It says they get angry because these people consistently make a mockery of God. but even still…

Verse 54:

54 Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. 55 In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law. 56 This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.

When I lie down…

I find comfort in your word…

it helps me with what I’m going through.

It gives me strength to get through the day and do it again the next.

THIS one is very important…

and we have to be careful with it.

because this might apply to SOME of us.

{Why Should We Read And Study The Bible?}

  • The Bible Shows Us Who The True God Is - Not The One We THINK He Is!

I have hinted to this one before.

what we have is something special.

2 Timothy 2:16 - the bible is given by inspiration from God. it is HIS words…

it is who HE is.

The More We Know Our Bible, The More We Know Our God!

But what about the opposite…

How Do We Truly Know The Lord If We Don’t Know His Word?

And THIS is where the problem comes…

How Do We Know Who We’re Really Serving?

After the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt… he had to lay down some rules.

This is where the 10 commandments came from.

Exodus 20:2-3

2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME.

You shall have no other gods before our God. no other god instead of.

no other god before…

no other god above.

Meaning…there is ONE God who comes first… that’s OUR God!

But HOW do we know who that God is… if we don’t truly know him?

When we usually don’t have all the information on something… it causes us to have “gaps.”

because we don’t like “gaps…”

Well we tend to fill that in with what makes sense to us.

We want to “make it make sense.

And this causes problems because we THINK we know God… but we don’t read…

so we don’t know.

Isaiah 55:8-9

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

So however you think the Lord can move…

his ways aren’t yours.

his thoughts aren’t yours.

So when you make a statement saying what the Lord is gonna do. you better be in the word…

you better KNOW.

Too Many Times We Think It’s The Lord, When It Might Really Be Just Us!

Sometimes we think it’s the Lord…

but it’s just an echo of what we already wanna hear. “The Lord brought these people in my life.”

“The Lord told me to take this job.” “The Lord told me to do this.”

“The Lord said THIS person is a snake…”

You better make sure you know the word better… so you can hear him better!

There was a time Jesus was telling his disciples about how he was going to the cross… His own disciple…

Matthew 16:22-23

22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

Peter tells Jesus that you’ll NEVER be crucified! If he has anything to do with it!

Verse 23

23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

Jesus tells him…

you are my disciple…

but you don’t get it.

you do NOT have the things of God in mind.

This was a disciple…

and Jesus called him Satan! why do we think we’ll be different?

We Have To Make Sure We’re Serving The Lord Of The Bible!

We have believers today who say they’re Christian… but have no idea what that means.

We say we love God…

but we live any kind of way.

Isaiah 29:13

13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.

People will come near to me with their mouth… they honor me with their lips…

they SAY what is good.

But they have no idea.

they don’t know me…

and honestly… He might not want us!

Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

There will be some who THINK they know. But they don’t.

The Bible Is The Key To The Lords Heart! You Have To Get IN The Word To Get TO Him!

Now the last one:

{Why Should We Read And Study The Bible?}

  • The Bible Adds Power To Our Prayers!

1 John 5:14-15

14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

This is the confidence we have…

that if we ask anything according to his will… what is his will?

The Will Of The Lord Is In The Word!

THIS is where the Lord’s promises are!

THiS is where he tells us what he thinks of us. This is where we can learn those promises.

and get them in us!

God loves it when we pray his word back to him. It shows we KNOW what we are talking about.

We can pray and ask the Lord for a blessing.

Because we know that the Lord can bless…

Or we can remind him of the Prayer of Jabez

1 Chronicles 4:10

10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

Oh that you would bless me! but not JUST bless me…

But enlarge my territory!

Lord take what you see now…

and expand me in every way!

And we can pray that along with Romans 2:11

Romans 2:11

11 For God does not show favoritism.

When you combine the Lord’s words… it’s literally HIS will.

and when you ask according to his will… he hears us.

Using The Word Powers Up Your Prayers!

Because you can pray the prayer of Jabez… along with…

“Lord you told me if I fully obeyed you… and followed all your commands…

you would bless me. but not JUST bless me.

your WORD says:

Deuteronomy 28:3-6

3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock

—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

And then you can power THIS prayer with Isaiah 55.

Isaiah 55:10-11

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

The rain and snow have a purpose.

to water the earth and produce.

Just like the rain and snow.

your word has a purpose.

it doesn’t fall and return empty. but it accomplishes HIS desires…

and achieves HIS purpose. God sends his word to accomplish his will. We can use it to ignite our prayers!

{closing}

We’ve spent the month talking about this. The bible is a tool of truth.

It is NECESSARY to our growth as believers.

{recap}:

The bible is more than a book. It is the inspiration of God.

it’s more than just words. it is the heart of the Lord… his love letter to us.
